FAQ

A: Personal effects are used belongings that have been in your possession for at least 12 months and are being imported for your continued personal use in Indonesia — not for resale. This includes clothing, books, personal electronics, kitchen items, and household goods. Brand new items or commercial quantities of any goods do not qualify as personal effects and will be subject to standard import duties.

A: Yes. Indonesian citizens who have been living abroad for at least one year for study or work are eligible to ship personal effects duty-free when returning to Indonesia. You'll need: a completion letter from your university, a statement letter from the Indonesian Embassy in London (KBRI London), your passport copy, and a detailed packing list.

A: Sea freight from the UK to Indonesia typically takes 50–60 calendar days from collection in the UK to arrival at the Indonesian port. After that, allow 3–7 days for customs clearance and inland delivery. Total door-to-door time is approximately 60–75 days.

A: Air freight from the UK to Indonesia takes 10–14 working days door-to-door. This includes processing in the UK, the flight (usually 1–2 stops via the Middle East or Southeast Asia), and customs clearance in Indonesia. Air freight is recommended for important personal items when you need them quickly upon arrival.

A: Yes. Indonesian customs requires the owner to be present in Indonesia before customs clearance of personal effects can begin. Your shipment must also arrive within 90 days before or after your arrival date in Indonesia. We'll help coordinate the timing so your goods arrive within the valid window. We can act as your authorised agent for the customs process with a signed power of attorney.
